Fuel For Thought

ThompsonGas maintains a substantial and diverse commitment to quality education. ThompsonGas believes that high-quality education is the key component of economic growth. To help ensure a strong, successful education system, ThompsonGas is committed to providing the support needed to develop society’s most valuable resource: our youth. Educational grants from ThompsonGas help provide elementary and secondary educators with the tools they need to revitalize math and science programs.

ThompsonGas accepts grant applications (up to $5,000) to encourage the development of new programs to strengthen math and science education in kindergarten through grade 12. The Thompson Gas awarded $20,000 to 10 schools and educational organizations every school year.

ThompsonGas is currently accepting applications for Educational Partnership grants. Applications are due no later than May 1st. The application includes contact information, as well as the project description and budget.

Proposals and Award Categories

Successful grant proposals should represent innovative and promising ideas, teach math and/or science skills, reach a significant number of students and demonstrate broad-based community support. Proposals must align with one of four targeted areas: parental involvement, closing the gap, environmental education or mini-grants (up to $1,000).

Eligibility

The ThompsonGas Foundation will award approximately $20,000 in educational partnership grants throughout an eight-state area (see Geographic Eligibility below). Accredited public and private elementary and secondary schools, public school divisions, institutions of higher education, state agencies and 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations are invited to apply.

Expectations of Recipients

Grant recipients will be asked to attend a 1/2 day workshop near their home to receive their check and meet with ThompsonGas representatives. Workshops will be scheduled between July 25 and August 26 throughout the eight-state region. Grant recipients will be asked to complete:

Award Categories

Partnership Grants are awarded in four categories:

  1. Mini-grants: Projects to enhance the teaching of math and science costing up to $1,000.
  2. Larger grants range from $1,001 to $5,000 and must target one of the following areas:
  3. Parental Involvement: Projects to increase the role of parents in math and/or science achievement.
  4. Closing the Gap: Projects to help schools with standardized test scores in math and science averaging below the 50th percentile.
  5. Environmental Education: Projects to develop math and/or science skills through the study of the environment.

The ThompsonGas Foundation will award approximately $200,000 in educational partnership grants throughout an eight-state area. Accredited public and private elementary and secondary schools, public school divisions, institutions of higher education, state agencies and 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations are invited to apply.
